Como fazer o upgrade do Ubuntu 12.04 LTS para o 14.04 LTS

Contrariamente aquilo que possam pensar, fazer um upgrade ao Ubuntu é um processo muito simples e raramente corre mal.
Devo lembrar que não deixa de ser um upgrade e como tal é conveniente que façam backup dos dados não vá terem alguma surpresa.
Basta escreverem na consola o seguinte
$ sudo update-manager -d
o processo começa de imediato e apenas vos pedirá confirmação de alguns passos no processo.
Nota: O upgrade é um processo demorado que poderá durar algumas horas.
